The area of Yuelu Mountain covers a large number of attractions and interesting areas, which visitors may wish to take more than a day to see properly.
Yuelu Academy, also known as the Yuelu Academic of Classical Learning was founded over a thousand years ago during the Song Dynasty in 976, and has experienced an unbroken 1000-year process of evolution into a modern institution of higher education. Hunan University is also located here, where Yuelu's history is documented and preserved. Orange Isle sits in the centre of Xiang River and is home to Heavenly Heart Pavilion.
Yuelu Hill Park is another feature of Yuelu Mountain known for the rolling hills from where the views over Changsha and the river are quite beautiful. At the top of Yunlu Hill, is Yuelu Palace which dates to the Qin Dynasty. Several tombs in the area also date fro this period including the Huangxin Tomb, the Cai'e Tomb, the Chentianhua Tomb and the Gaodafong Tomb. The Loving Dusk Pavilion, is known to have been the muse for much of Chairman Mao's poetry and this has been marked by a stone tablet and the display of his poem "Qinyuanchun Changsha".
