Shoton Festival for Trade and Economic Contacts in Lhasa
In 2005, the Shoton Festival for Trade and Economic Contacts was held in Lhasa for the first time and brought in total investment of 4.9 billion RMB for contracted projects involving the fields of agricultural development, mining, Tibetan medicines, ethnic handicrafts, tourism, science and technology, business and services and real estate development. More than 200 merchants from Beijing, Chengdu and other major mainland cities participated in the Festival, which had the largest number of participants, largest scale, most complete product varieties and widest coverage of trades in the region's history.
Groups from 19 provinces and municipalities including Beijing, Zhejiang, Guangxi, Chongqing, Chengdu, Yunnan, Guizhou, Qinghai and Gansu as well as Hong Kong also participated in the Festival. Lhasa will hold the Shoton Festival every year for the purpose of increasing understanding of Lhasa's products for people at home and abroad and attracting investment to Lhasa.
