The twelve specialized gardens in Heilongjiang Forest Botanical Garden in Harbin represent a wide and comprehensive cross section of the plants native to northeast China. Originally set up in 1958 as a research centre, it was opened to the public in 1988 and aiming to continue research and also provide interest and information to visitors.
Over 12000 species grow in the Botanical Garden whose sub-gardens include Living Specimens Garden, Tulip Garden and Medicinal Plants Garden. Miniature plants from Daxinganling, Xiaoxinganling and Changbaishan Mountains are particularly well regarded. The Botanical Garden also features a number of structures including the Pavilion and Nine Dragons Wall, all of which are designed to complement and enhance the beauty of the garden into which they have been built.
