Description

Zhaolin Park has been known by a number of names since it opened in 1906, but it' s current moniker has stuck for over 60 years, and comes from Li Zhaolin, a general in the Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army and leader of its 3rd Route Army who was buried in the park after his death at the hands of Kuomintang agents in 1946.

Zhaolin Park is transformed into a delicate paradise of ice lanterns when the famous ''ice lantern garden party'' is held here every winter. Intricately carved ice lanterns cover the park and are lit up as night falls to create an enchanting display. In recent years the sculptors have integrated sound displays and movements into some works which sit alongside the traditional pieces in this unique collection of artistic endeavor. Millions of visitors come to see the ice lanterns from all over northern China and beyond.

In summer, the park flourishes, covered in pretty flowers and blossoms. Various small gardens compete for visitor' s affections, among them "reflecting-moonshine garden", "southern greenhouse" and fragrant "clove garden''.
