Standing alongside St. Sophia Church the Heilongjiang Art Museum was built in 1937 to a European eclectic architectural style. It has a total area of 3,000square meters is spread over three floors.
This local arts museum, established in 1964 holds a collection of over 1,300 paintings created mainly by Heilongjiang artists. The museum is also a leading collector of Russian painting. It holds occasional fine art exhibitions, seminars and discussion groups. Every December, it exhibits the work of new artists.
