Description

Liuhe Ta, Six Harmonies Pagoda, is located at the foot of Yuelun Shan (Yuelun Hill) overlooking the Qiantang River. A pagoda was first built on the site in the Northern Song Dynasty, but was destroyed in 1121, and was replaced with the current octagonal structure during the Southern Song Dynasty. The pagoda was reputedly built as a navigational aid and as a way of calming the waters of the Qiantang River. The shape was modified during the Ming and Qing dynasties.

The Six Harmonies Pagoda is much admired for its proportions and for the style and quality of its artisanship. Rising to a height of 59.89 meters (196 feet), it offers fine views over the river and is a popular site for sunset viewing.
