The New Ten Scenes of West Lake were chosen to echo the beauty of the traditional Ten Scenes of the West Lake and provide another itinerary that captures more of the serene beauty of the area. Visitors who do not have time to see all of the sights may wish to visit at least three of them. The full list is: Cloud-Sustained Path in a Bamboo Grove, Sweet Osmanthus Rain at Manlong Village, Running Tiger Dream Spring at Hupao Valley, Inquiring about Tea at Dragon Well, Nine Creeks Meandering Through a Misty Forest, Heavenly Wind over Wu Hill, Ruan's Mound Encircled by Greenness, Yellow Dragon Cave Dressed in Green, Clouds Scurrying over Jade Emperor Hill, and Precious Stone Hill Floating in Rosy Cloud.
This attraction is located southwest of West Lake, on the north bank of the Qiantang River in Wuyun Hill Yunqi (Lingering Clouds) Village. Yun Qi, with its quiet cobbled paths lined with bamboo, is the perfect setting for the famous Mind Purifying Pool, Xi Xin Chi, which is famous for its for its crystal purity.
Nearby is Yunxi Village, renowned as one of the main tea planting areas in Hangzhou.

This area, located southwest of West Lake, is famed for the Sweet Osmanthus (Tea Olive) trees that bloom in the area in September and October. It is the site of an Osmanthus Festival which has been instituted in the hope of reviving some of the old customs which used to be associated with the flowering of the Osmanthus. The Sweet Osmanthus is the city flower of Hangzhou, which is why this area has been included in the New Ten Views of West Lake. Hu Pao Meng Quang is situated at the foot of Daci Hill southwest of West Lake. The spring that gives the place its name produces water of outstanding purity, and delights visitors with the sound it makes as they walk along the winding paths in the area.
This poetic name was given to Longjing (Dragon Well) when it was included among the Ten New Scenes of West Lake in the 1980s. Longjing is located at Fenghuangling Mountain (Phoenix Hill), west of the West Lake. The area is well known for its fragrant forests, its sweet water and its refreshing green tea: longjing tea is one of the most sought-after varieties in China.

Located just south of Longjing (Dragon Well), Jiu Xi Shi Ba Jian is an area of beautiful scenery, threaded with numerous creeks and featuring fine pavilions. The months from April to October are a particularly good time to come here because of the profusion of flowering trees and plants.
A locality comprising numerous small peaks and extending to the edge of the downtown area, Wu Shan is often known as Chenghuang Hill, after the beautiful Chenghuang Pavilion which was built in 1999 in the Yuan and Ming styles. Visitors particularly appreciate the flowers and camphor trees that adorn the area.

An islet reclaimed from the lake during the Qing Dynasty, Ruan Dun Huan Bi is the site of music and theatrical performances, and has been decorated with bamboo halls, pavilions and terraces.

Situated at the north foot of Qixia Hill, Yellow Dragon Cave Dressed in Green takes its name from the bamboo that grows in profusion in the area. The temple on the site was once a place of Buddhist worship and later became a Taoist shrine. Streams, caves, pavilions and rockeries add to the charm of the scene.
Jade Emperor Hill is situated beween West Lake and the Qiantang River, and offers good views from its 239-meter summit. The hike to the top is nearly four km long, and takes walkers past some fine caves and pavilions. The views of West Lake and the river from the pavilion at the top are very good.

The name of this site derives from the sunrise views of mist floating over the lake. Notable features are the delicate rock formations and weathered boulders traced with greenery. On a nearby hill is the 45 meter-high Baochu Pagoda.
