The Fujian Provincial Museum opened in the 1950s at the north end of West Lake Park to replace the Scientific Museum of Fujian Province and house its collection of artworks and artifacts, excavated from various sites around Fujian Province. A collection of silk costumes from a series of Southern Song Dynasty
tombs are particularly noteworthy, as are the collection of paintings from Ming and Qing Dynasty artists and the Ming Dynasty porcelain Guanyin Buddha (the Buddha of compassion). In the Hall of Ancient Fujian Relics, visitors can find a 3500 year-old coffin-boat which was discovered in a cave in Wuyi Mountain and a collection of Han Dynasty weaponry. There is also an exhibition hall devoted to fossils and natural resources of Fujian.
The Hall of Fujian Revolutionary History is a collection of artifacts from the revolutionary history of the Fujian area focusing on the May 4th Movement in 1919, up to the present day.
