Established during the late Ming - early Qing Dynasties, Da Bei Chan is the oldest Buddhist temple in Tianjin. Da Bei Chan is home to a 5-meter-tall Gautama Buddha perched on a lotus throne. Sculpted from copper during the Ming Dynstasy, the Buddha weighs in at around 6 tons and is surrounded by smaller statues of mythical animals and gods made from wood, stone and jade. Some of these date back as far as the Wei Dynasty.
