Built in 1611, the Dabeiyuan Monastery is the largest Buddhist monastery in the north of the city of Tianjin. Severely damaged in 1976 by an earthquake, the temple has since been restored to its former glory. The monastery is regarded as a museum of Buddhist Art - it has more than 100 Buddhist statues that date back to the 3rd century. Most are made out of bronze, iron and wood and depict different state of beings of Buddha.
