Description

These twin Tombs situated 35 kilometers to the southwest of Zhengzhou by Dahuting Village, were built in the Eastern Han Dynasty. The larger of the two tombs is situated to the west of the site, standing 15 meters high, while the smaller eastern tomb is half as large. They are excellent examples of Han architecture.

During the 1960s, the tombs were excavated: archeologists discovered that they were both built in the same basic style of a stone coffin chamber, which is reached by a passageway divided into eight sections, decorated with delicately carved depictions of animals and plants including lotus flowers on the walls and ceilings. The tomb is also filled with carvings of goods that might be useful for travel into the afterlife such as entertainment and food.
