Built in 1848 only 6 years after David Abeel (Xiamen's first missionary) arrived (and left), New Street Chapel is the first Protestant Church ever built on the Chinese mainland. Its present-day architecture is remarkably similar to that of the original, and boasts a lovely white colonnade that's vaguely reminiscent of the American colonial style
