This park on Gulang Island encompasses forests, caves, gullies, large rock formations and the highest point on the island at Yellow Rock. Sunlight Peak rises 204 feet into the sky, reached by a narrow staircase winding up the mountain below, sitting nearby Lotus Flower Convent. The views over Xiamen and Jimei Island from the peak make the hike worthwhile.
Zheng Chenggong, the Ming loyalist military leader who opposed the Manchu regime of the Qing and who defeated the Dutch to claim Taiwan in 1662, is honored with a memorial hall at the base of the park. Many poets have written eulogies and poems to Chenggong, many of which have been inscribed on the walls of the halls for visitors to read. There is also an aviary, a temple named Riguang Yan and a pretty beach. Travel around the park is made much simpler by a cable car with moves visitors between the most popular attractions.
