Description

Situated between the Xi and Hui mountains from which it gets its name, Xihui Park is a 45 acre area of hills, forests, amusements and pretty temples on the western edge of Heng Street in Wuxi. The park was opened in the Ming Dynasty

and was frequently visited by Qing Dynasty Emperors Kangxi and Qianlong. It has also attracted poets and painters for hundreds of years: the famous blind musician, A Bing, composed his most well known work Er Quan Ying Yue (Second Spring Reflecting the Moon) here. The most famous spots in the park are Zhuangxun Temple, Nine-Dragon Wall, the ruins of Huishan Temple and Longguang Pagoda. The Longguang pagoda now standing, is a replica of the original Ming Dynasty structure, which burnt down in the Qing Dynasty after which it was rebuilt from brick and wood. The view from the top of the tower across Wuxi and Taihu Lake is quite spectacular and it is a prominent feature on the Wuxi landscape.

There are several activities in the park to keep visitors busy: the Xihui Ropeway will take you high up through the mists of Xi Mountain to admire the spectacular views. A small zoo at the southern foot of Xi Mountain holds Giant Pandas as well as peacocks, Siberian tigers, lions, hippos and camels.
