Xinhua Road Stadium, situated at Xinhua Road of Hankou, is another public sports facility under the supervision of Hubei Commission for Physical Culture and Sports. Built in April 1955, it was the first sporting arena built in Wuhan, and continues to be the largest. With an area of 135 mu and a total floorage of 16,982 sq. meters, it has 21 floors made of concrete planks with a large enough seating capacity to hold 30,000 spectators. There are a total of 20 entrances and exits, and 2 rostrums in the west and east wings, under which 1 big hall and 5 lounges are located. 112 furnished rooms used for accommodation, study and work are located on 2 floors under the slope of the reinforced bleachers. Inside are a standard track & field ground with 10 synthetic resin racetracks, each 400 meters; 2 sandpits for the high jump and long jump, and 2 throw-event courses. A 100m by 69m grass football field located in the centre of the racetrack is equipped with four lighting towers for night matches. It has served as the host for many important international and domestic matches.
