Turtle Hill is so called because it resembles a giant turtle. In the past, it served at an important strategic spot during wars, but today it is best known as a prime tourist spot. There is a legend surrounding the hill's unusual shape: In ancient times Emperor Yu visited this spot as he attempted to tame the mighty Yangtze. But a water demon was determined to thwart his plans. In the end, a tortoise descended from the heavens, and helped the emperor to defeat the water demon. Today, the hill is very popular at sunrise, when travelers and local alike visit the place to practice taichi.
