Description

Jinci Temple is among 50 other cultural and natural sites listed on China's "World Heritage Candidate List" -- the first step in applying for World Heritage status. Jinci Temple is an impressive collection of ancient wooden buildings in a beautiful natural setting. The earliest of the buildings in the temple (the Hall of the Sacred Mother), is thought to be about 1000 years old, although the history of the complex goes back much further to the Zhou dynasty. The Hall of the Sacred Mother, together with the Flying Bridge across the Fish Pond and the Offerings Hall are of great architectural interest and attract many visitors. The Hall houses 42 Song dynasty clay figures of maidservants of the sacred lady to which the hall is dedicated. One of the most beautiful natural wonders is the ancient Zhou Cypress, which grows at an unusual angle and is at least 1000 years old.
