Description

Minsk Aircraft Carrier World is situated on the shore of the Sha Tau Kok River. Minsk World is one of only two theme parks in the world to be based on a real aircraft carrier, the other being in Tianjin. The park is built around the base of the Minsk, a second-generation Soviet aircraft carrier. Minsk was built in 1972 and was listed as part of the Soviet Union Navy Pacific Fleet in 1978. At the end of the cold war, the Minsk was sold to South Korea. Then in 1998, it was purchased by the Minsk Company for the sole purpose of creating a military-theme attraction. Aside from being a theme park, it also serves as a center for popular science and national defense education center. Minsk Aircraft Carrier World is comprised of Minsk Aircraft Carrier and Minsk Square; both are interconnected with a 10m long bridge.

The 30,000-sqm area showcases helicopters and fighter planes. On the platform, there is a Soviet MiG-23 aircraft-fighter and Mi-24 military helicopters. On the second deck, the crew's living quarters give a glimpse of naval living conditions including bunks and kitchen. Other exhibitions include space flight, sailing and aviation. The interactive exhibition allows visitors to partake in warfare simulations. Highlight of the attraction is the traditional honor guard Russian performances.

Minsk Square showcases historical re-enactments with various eateries and shops in the area. The 80,000 sqm Square consists of the Back Square, the Front Square, and the Aircraft Carrier Center. Front Square is a great place to see the guards of honor, who are flanked by sentries on both sides - Turn Swords into Plough; a beautiful sculpture adorns the square. The sculpture is a symbol of hard-earned peace and a message of the efforts that mankind must make to retain it. The Back Square features a naval battle simulator; other attractions include a tank and air base. The Aircraft Carrier Center, a multi-functional building is renowned for its distinctive architectural style. Visitors can enjoy shopping and have a relaxing dinning experience.
