Many of China's religious structures have been torn down and rebuilt at least once in the last 400 years, but Tiantong is one of the rare few that has remained virtually untouched since the Ming Dynasty. Many Buddhist masters, including Eight-Finger Jing'an and Master Guangxiu have all lived within its walls.
