Description

Originally built in 1034 during the Song Dynasty , the Nanjing Confucius Temple (Fuzi Miao) is one of the best sights in the city. The complex comprises the Temple, the Imperial Academy, and the Gongyuan where provincial and national civil service entrance exams were held during the Ming and Qing dynasties. The complex has served many purposes during its long history. It has also suffered during wars - it was burned to the ground during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression. In 1984 the local government rebuilt the complex according to the architectural styles of the Ming and Qing dynasties.
