Description

Literally translated as ''Gate of China'', the impressive Zhonghua Men was constructed during the Ming Dynasty . It's known among locals as the Gate of Gathering Treasure, because of a legend that surrounds its construction. The gate would collapse during a critical stage of construction - this happened over and over again for 20 years. One of the engineers then decided to bury a ''Box of Gathering Treasure'' underneath the bridge, and this seemed to fix the problem. The gate remains in its original state, and is carefully protected by the Jiangsu Provincial Government. Locals say that special cement comprising lime, tung seed oil and rice has kept it standing all these years.
