With 26 different ethnic nationalities living in Yunnan, it is China' most diversely populated province. Thus its museum dedicated to ethnic minorities is a treasure trove of fascinating cultural objects. Located in the National Resort Zone of Kunming near Dian Lake, the purpose of the Yunnan Nationalities Museum is to display, store and research the development of the province' numerous nationalities. It houses over 20,000 cultural relics including costumes, weavings, looms, attires, embroideries, silver jewelry, religious costumes, pottery, bamboo and other articles from all of the representative groups. The multi-purpose institution also has a research center that employs research fellows from its representative population, a book store, a handicraft shop, a tea house and art studios and galleries.
