Description

In the Sui Dynastygreat numbers of statues depicting the Buddha were carved into the rock on this mountain, which sits about three kilometers outside of Jinan. Thousand Buddha Temple and its surrounding structures were built around them. The Buddhist statues have been added to in the years since the temple was built. Many statues depicting the Buddha, Bodhisattva, Buddhist Disciples and the four Heavenly Guardian Kings now sit in Wanfo Cave, constructed in 690 AD to house the statues and to demonstrate the piety of Emperor Gaozong and Empress Wu Zetian and their children. .

The Mountain Park is now considered to be one of the seven most beautiful spots in the whole of Shandong Province and encompasses not only the great natural beauty of the area, but several man-made spots that should not be missed.
