Description

The spring after which Batou Spring Park is named is regarded as the best of all of the springs in Jinan. The spring's first recorded mention was in the "Spring and Autumn Annals", written by Confucius and regarded as one of the Five Classics of Chinese Literature. Batou Spring has been the inspiration for poets and writers ever since.

The springs bubble up through limestone, bursting into the open through three small outlets with a noise like thunder. The water temperature remains constant at around 18C (64.4F) and when the air temperature drops in winter mist condenses over the spring's rectangular pool, hanging like a cloud over the surface of the water.

The water from Baotu Spring is clear and mellow in flavor. It can be drunk straight from the source, and it has long been a tradition of the area to brew tea with the spring water. Wangheting Teahouse on the east side of the spring will provide any number of refreshments to visitors, as it did for emperors in days gone by.

Ancient pavilions and halls are dotted along the sides of the spring and during the park's renovation in the 1950s, trees were planted, flowers grown & and rockeries were added to turn the area surrounding the spring into an appealing 9 acre park. At the same time the spring pool was re-shaped and a viewing platform built which juts out across the water. The park is the scene of the annual Lantern Festivals and Chrysanthemum Shows.
