As a large-scale governmental exposition, it is the only international information technology exposition co-held by the U.N. Economic and Social Commission for Asia-Pacific (ESCAP) and China, as well as the largest international exposition in Shandong Province. It is held in Jinan regularly every 2 years, and co-sponsored by the State Ministry of Information Industry, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the Shandong Provincial People's Government and other State Ministries and organized by the Shandong Department of Information Industry, the Provincial Department of Science and Technology and the Jinan Municipal People's Government.
The China (Jinan) International Information Technology Exposition plays an important role in promoting exchanges and cooperation in the field of information technology and boosting regional development of the IT sector. It has become a platform for direct exchange and cooperation among IT suppliers, dealers and purchasers and an important window and carrier of Jinan's opening up and investment promotion.
