Description

The Great Mosque was built during the Qing Dynasty, following the migration of large groups of Hui people to the region. The building is an interesting mix of Chinese and Islamic style, with all of the structures built out of black brick. It is sometimes possible to get permission to climb the 15m high minaret. The Mosque is home to more than 30 ancient volumes of the Koran, all in Arabic. Prayer services are held five times daily, and visitors are free to wander, as long as they stay out of prayer halls and do not disrupt services.
