The beautiful Li River rises near Mao' er Mountain northeast of Guilin and winds its way southeast for 437 km, passing through Guilin, Yangshuo, Pingle and Zhaoping before flowing into the Xi River at Wulin. Its iconic scenery attracts tens of thousands of visitors each year, the most popular stretch of the river being the 83-km-long waterway from Guilin to Yangshuo, featuring spectacular hills, steep cliffs, peaceful rural scenes, beautiful caves and emerald vegetation.
Cruises leave in the morning. When the river level allows, the trip starts from the wharf south of Liberation Bridge in the Guilin downtown area, in which case the total cruise time is about eight hours. Alternatively, transport can be arranged to Mopanshan Wharf or Zhujiang Wharf, located about an hour' s drive from the city, and reducing the cruise time to about four and a half hours. Tickets can be arranged through hotel travel services, or purchased directly from the Li River Sightseeing Dispatch and Ticketing Center.
