Description

Seven Stars Park, covering an area of more than 120 hectares (297 acres), is located in Guilin City on the east bank of the Li River, and has been a scenic attraction since the Sui and Tang dynasties. The park' s name comes from its seven peaks, which are said to resemble the Big Dipper constellation. The many walking trails wind through graceful mountains and serene valleys and past numerous spots of cultural and historical interest.

Flower Bridge, built in the Song dynasty, is the oldest bridge in Guilin, and is surrounded with a profusion of flowers in spring and summer. Putuo Mountain is sacred to the Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva (known as Guanyin, or goddess of mercy in China). The mountain features a number of devotional pavilions and several caves, the most popular of which is Seven Stars Cave. Camel Hill, which is said to resemble an Arabian camel, lies behind Putuo Mountain, and is famed for its beauty, especially in springtime when the plum blossom is in flower. Other points of interest in Seven Stars Park are Crescent Mountain, which lies to the south of Putuo Mountain, and the Guihai Stele Forest, which has more than 220 carved tablets, recording matters of politics, economy, culture and military affairs.
