An Irish pub, a restaurant and a live music venue – Hooley’s is the venue of choice for people wishing to enjoy an expertly pulled pint of Guinness, good food and live music. Though immensely popular with the expat crowd, Hooley’s is the least bohemian and cutting edge out of the lot. At the same time however, Hooley’s doesn’t claim to be the most avant-garde live music venue around, hence it’s less about serious music and more about having a good time. However, there are major exceptions to this rule and sometimes Hooley’s does reel in a big name or two, such as Canadian rocker Ron Hawkins for example. The majority of gigs however, consist of cover bands, while the mic is given over to the audiences in their open mic night every Wednesday.
I went once... and never again...
Hooley's has excellent ex-pat style food. Anyone missing staples like Fish and Chips, or Onion Rings look no further. There is even some decent Tex-Mex and some Asian food if you want the more western style version of Kung Pao Chicken. And that doesn't even begin to cover their extensive beer selection, perhaps the largest of any bar, but at least the largest on Xin Sheng Lu.
Anyway, anyone looking for a great steak and pint of beer don't miss this joint. If your a fan of live music be sure to come any night Thursday though Sunday and enjoy some local or not so local musical artists.
My personal favorite is the weekly Trivia every Thursday. First place is a free bottle of Jamison. My friends and I never miss it.
Had one of my first nights out in Guangzhou at Hooley's recently and it felt like a home away from home. Friendly staff, great food and drinks and the in-band entertainment is great too. Very lively and social atmosphere.

Stumbled on this bar recently, fantastic night out. Very good choice of different types of food, (the steak was perfect), and an overwhelming choice of drinks. The excellent staff make you feel wanted and not someone in the way of their game of mahjong. I will definately be returning here on a more regular basis.
