Description

Jiuzhaigou Valley is situated in Nanping county approximately 450 km southwest from Chengdu; the valley encompasses an area of 720 square kilometers, which is cocooned by virgin forests and rare flowers and snow capped mountains. "Haizi" is dotted with lakes and pools of various sizes filled with crystalline waters. The valley, is considered an enchanting gift from nature which in is inhabited by golden monkeys, white geese, pandas and other rare and precious animals.

These lakes' water differs from others since it has a high concentration of calcium carbonate, so that the lakebeds and the banks are all covered with crystals. The concentration of the minerals in the water allows visitors to see into the depths of the lakes.

There are several scenic areas including Magic Mirror Cliff, Penjinghai Lake, Luweihai, Huohahai, Shuzheng Group of Lakes, Nuorilang waterfalls, Pearl Shoal, Panda Lake Waterfall, Swan Lake, Hanging Dagger Spring, Five Color Pool and Long Lake.

Vast forests and plunging waterfalls beautify the area. Locals feel that the essence Jiuzhaigou scenery is its waterfall. The forested area at the foot of the mountain provides plenty of refreshing coolness in the summer time. Travelers are advised that visit the area in the late autumn/ early winter when the mountaintops are covered with white snow while the hill slopes and the valley are a blaze of color.

In 1992, UNESCO entered this scenic area onto the World Natural Heritage List. Travelers interested in taking a refreshing dip are advised to come in the summer time!

Admission: RMB 220 (peak season: Apr. 1st-Nov. 15); RMB 80 (Nov. 16 - Mar. 31)
