Located in the southeast of Changchun and 500 meters east of Renmin Dajie, Changchun Zoo and Botanical Garden is a well-established attraction, having opened in 1938. An artificial lake divides the garden into three parts. To the west, there is an artificial mountain covered in trees from Changbai Mountain; the eastern part is mainly a showcase for various local animals and the northern part encompasses a large-scale amusement park and greenhouse area.
In the animal exhibition area, there are many rare wild animals including northeast tigers, lynx, bustards and red-crowned cranes as well as animals from further afield such as giraffes, elephants and rhinos. Over 200 different species live in the Zoo. The huge aviary in the animal exhibition area is a noisy and colorful place to visit. Other interesting features include the rare Changpai scotch pine, which is unique in Jilin and smaller gardens such as the 100-flower garden, friendship garden, rosebush garden and devilwood garden.
