The refurbished Qinghai Provincial Museum was opened in 2001 and aims to provide a comprehensive overview of history and culture on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Over 200,000 artifacts are exhibited here, most notably Persian silver coins, Tang Dynasty silk, and Buddhist texts from Dunhuang. Exhibitions showing Yak Butter Sculpture and the legends of Princess Wencheng sit alongside demonstrations of Qinghai pre-history and ethnic culture
