Emperor Lizhi ordered this temple built in the mid-600's as a shrine to his late mother, Empress Wen De. The Wild Goose Pagoda, a huge southern-style structure rising 64 meters into the air, is the only part of the building that survived the inter-provincial wars of the Tang Dynasty. The temple boasts a total of 1,897 rooms, many of which are open to the public.
