The museum was established in 2005 and covers 11,490 square meters. The museum displays cultural relics discovered in the Xinjiang Region including a collection of stone figures, and tools for calligraphy. Exhibitions also discuss the history of Urumqi and contemporary life in the city. It holds themed exhibitions from time to time.
