Description

Longxing Monastery is located approximately 18 kms. north of Shijiazhuang in Zhending. Zhending was originally established during the Sui Dynasty and later became a thriving religious center in the Sui Dynasty . Because of its religious relevance, the town was often visited by emperors who came to pay homage to their ancestors.

Longxing Monastery is located towards the outskirts of Zhending and is considered one of the most impressive Buddhist monuments in the area. The monastery is quite large, but much of it is now defunct. In the central axis of the monastery lie the Hall of Heavenly Kings (Tianwang Dian), the Hall of Manichaeism (Moni Dian), the Altar Jie Tan and the Temple of Great Mercy (Ci'en Si). The Monastery is also known for its impressive statue, a 21-meter high bronze statue of Guanyin, Goddess of Mercy, the most beloved Buddha in China.

Getting There: Minibuses head to Zhengding County from Shijiazhuang at regular intervals. The 20-minute ride costs approximately RMB 15-20. The buses stop right outside the monastery. Travelers can also reach this destination by taking bus 201 (ticket - RMB 3).
