The China-ASEAN, Association of Southeast Asian Nation is an organization with 11 members including China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Vietnam, Laos Myanmar, and Cambodia. Originally established in 1967, the organization's overall goal is to accelerate regional economic growth, social progress and cultural development. This organization with 11-members is considered the voice for regional trade and security issues since the 1990s.

In 1992, members agree upon free trade and hope to further cooperation between China and ASEAN countries. By 2010, many ASEAN members hope to have firmly established a free trade area in China.

During the 7th China-ASEAN Summit on October 8, 2003, Premier Wen Jiabao of the People's Republic of China proposed that a China-ASEAN Expo be held annually in Nanning, Guangxi, China beginning in 2004. This initiative was welcomed by ASEAN leaders and was written into the Chairman's Statement released after the Summit. The Chinese Premier also suggested that a China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit be held simultaneously with the China-ASEAN Expo.

The 1st China-ASEAN Expo and the 1st China-ASEAN Business and investment Summit were successfully held in Nanning, China in November, 2004. This Expo offers a new platform for further cooperation between China and ASEAN Countries, and considered as a means to deepen China's strategic partnership and further develop friendly ties with other ASEAN Members.

The Annual China-ASEAN Expo in Nanning displays electrical appliances, mechanical equipment and automobile, and its parts. As of 2006, over 2,000 participants took part in the China-ASEAN Expo, with hopes that it will continue to grow annually.
