The Hohhot Baita International Airport (IATA: HET) was opened in 2007, to become the largest airport in Inner Mongolia. International charter flights leave for Hong Kong, Russia and Thailand, and daily scheduled services fly to 28 cities including Beijing (1hr), Guangzhou (3hrs), Tianjin (1 hr), Shanghai (2.5 hrs), Changsha (2 hrs), Shenzhen (3hrs), Shijiazhuang, Wuhan, Xian, and Xilinhot.
Situated 14 kilometers from downtown Hohhot, a taxi to or from the airport will only cost about RMB30, though if this is still a little too much, there are frequent shuttle buses.
