Formally opened on May 5th, 1962, the Heilongjiang Library has become the largest comprehensive library in Heilongjiang Province with a collection of 2.6 million volumes, encompassing 1.97 million books, 142,000 volumes of ancient books, 506,000 volumes of newspapers, and 20,000 videos. It also has a great number of Russian and Japanese language materials and about 10,000 books related to the geology, resources, and local customs of northeast China and Heilongjiang Province.''The Prajna Paramita Heart Sutra''of the late Tang Dynasty, and Local Records during the Qing Dynasty (Daqing Yitongzhi) are among the ancient treasures of the library.
