Description

Situated at the southern bank of the West Lake, the China National Silk Museum is the world's biggest museum devoted to silk.

The Preface Hall introduces the 5000-year history of Chinese sericulture (silk culture), while the Relics Hall presents fragile samples of silk from almost every dynasty of ancient China, collected from places as far removed as the Silk Road and the northern grasslands, as well as from southern China. One item is a fragment of brocade 5630 years old.

The Dyeing and Weaving Hall displays the dyeing and weaving process from both theoretical and practical perspectives, and the Modern Achievements Hall displays China's present-day achievements in silk research, production and trade.
