The Chengdu Railway Station is the largest in southwest China. It is linked directly to major cities across China, including Beijing (26 hours), Shanghai (35 hours), Kunming (18 hours), Chongqing (2 hrs) and Xi'an (13 hours).
Tickets can be bought in advance from any of the city's travel agencies: this is highly recommended as the tickets tend to sell out around 2 days in advance. Hotels and hostels also arrange travel for a small charge of around RMB30, which avoids the need to queue at the station or hunt out an agency.
The railway station sits in the north of the city, and can be reached from the city for only RMB 1 by bus, or around RMB 15 by taxi.
