Description

The Geological Museum of China is China's national level museum of geological science.

Among the Museum's acclaimed collection of specimens is an excellent set of dinosaur fossils, including one which is the tallest and most complete dinosaur fossil extant in the world.

The holdings are arranged in five halls: the geological resources hall is devoted to the mineral products and resources of China; the earth origins hall deals with the formation and composition of the earth, the forces at work in and below the earth's crust and the forces of erosion at work on the surface; in the paleontology hall there are displays of fossilized insects, fish and eggs as well as Pleistocene-era artifacts recovered from the Peking Man caves at Zhoukoudian; the hall of minerals showcases mineral crystals and precious specimens from China and overseas, together with over 800 rock specimens; the gem hall displays raw and cut specimens of precious and semi-precious stones including diamonds, jade, colored stone and Chinese inkstones.
