Description

Beijing’s restaurant, club and bar scene has one place that is over 200 square metres big, called the ROOMBeijing Restaurant, Bar and Lounge.
In terms of the restaurant, ROOMBeijing adapts the slogan “creating food with atmosphere”. The cuisine is international casual dining, combining influences from the east and west. Menu prices are kept relatively low with the aim of accommodating all budgets. All dishes come in small, medium and large sizes, and are priced at 50, 80 and 100 RMB respectively. “The idea behind the small, medium and large portion sizes,” says McKenna, “is to allow guests to eat exactly how they like to eat – if they want to come in for a beer and a piece of steak, then they can do that. If they want to order a wide range of small dishes and eat Chinese family style, they can. And if they want to eat Western style, with an appetizer, a large main and a dessert, they can do that too.” Ingredients are sourced from local and international suppliers and the menu changes every three months.
The venue’s deco is designed by British artist Hugo Dalton, with new works by three local, Asian and international visual artists adorning the restaurant walls every three months. Even Dalton’s artwork, “Portrait of Beijing”, which the London artist hand-painted around the restaurant’s walls, has been designed to move and be refreshed when needed. Indeed, rotation and innovation are at the foreground of ROOM and this is a focus that extends well beyond its food menu and deco, into its resident DJs, events and even its mixology cocktail list as well.
ROOMBeijing’s bar is well stocked with a wide variety of champagne, wines by the glass, international spirits, mixers and beer. However, ROOM’s lounge is the place to go to ultimately kick back and enjoy nightly live bands and DJs. ROOM will also invite big-name international artists to perform and if its first major event in May is anything to go by, ROOM is set to rival Beijing’s other major high-profile clubs.
