Description

This outstanding museum is located just over 1 km northwest of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. Opened in 1992, the museum building was built in classical Tang style, reputedly on architectural principles specified by the late Premier Zhou Enlai (1898 - 1976).

The display on the ground floor is devoted to objects from China' s prehistory through the Shang and Qin dynasties, and includes some significant Shang bronze items, bronze weapons including swords, and statuary of horses and soldiers, as well as Qin burial items including four original figures taken from the Terracotta Warriors collection.

The section on the next floor features items from the Han dynasty to the Northern Zhou period: among the most interesting of the objects is a set of transmission gears made of forged iron, which was a surprisingly advanced engineering achievement. In the next section are displays from the Sui dynasty through to the Qing dynasty, which include Tang gold and silver objects and Tang sancai ceramics, and one of the most beautiful paintings from the Tang Dynasty, ''Playing Polo'' which was unearthed in 1971 from Prince Zhanghuai' s Tomb in Qianxian County, Shaanxi Province.

Note: The institution provides a number of special services including wheel chairs, free storage and other services to make everyone's visit enjoyable.
