The new Suzhou Library was opened to the public on the 18th of June 2001, in the courtyard of the former Municipal People's Congress, in the downtown area. The new building structure occupies a total built area of 25,000 square meters. The institution is known for its extensive collection, which is comprised of 2 million volumes of books and periodicals, "Qianlong Wuxiang County Annals", "Wujiang Water System", and “The Annals of Suzhou Textile Bureau".
