The China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Shanghai Sub-Council (CCPIT Shanghai) was founded in 1956. CCPIT Shanghai is a quasi-governmental foreign trade promotion organization and a group member of the national CCPIT, which provides guidance and coordination for local district and county trade promotion organizations in Shanghai.

The objectives of CCPIT Shanghai are promoting trade, investment, economic and technical cooperation as well as promoting mutual understanding and friendship between Shanghai and other countries and regions throughout the world.

CCPIT Shanghai provides services in the fields of international relations, conventions and exhibitions, legal services, arbitration, economic and trade information, etc. It also undertakes business entrusted by relevant departments of the local government and plays a unique role as a "Non-governmental Economic Ambassador".
