Qingdao Public library has an extensive collection of books, periodicals and other educational materials. This library is known for its 150 thousand ancient materials that date back to Ming Dynasty. During its inventory, it was estimated that it possesses over 1.23 million volumes of books. This institution's growth is attributed to the number of governmental and private national and international donations. Out of the 100,000 volumes of overseas donation, 30 thousand were from Germany.
