Description

Located southwest of the city center, the 110-km-long Qinhuai River is considered a tributary of the Yangtze River. Legend has it that the river was chiseled through Mount Fangshan during the reign of Emperor Qin Shi Huang (259-210 BC) to provide the people of Nanjing with drinking water. On the river's banks are a number of sights, including the Zhangyuan Garden, the Confucius Temple, and the Zhonghua Gate. Visitors can see all three sites by taking a boat tour down the river.
