On August 26, 2006, Lanzhou City launched a two-day international fair in Lanzhou to show Gansu Province industries to the west. China National Economy & Trade Commission, Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations and Trade & State Structural Reform Office organize this annual event. Established in 1993, the goal of the annual fair is to encourage national and international economic cooperation.
Gansu Province plays a pivotal role in western China since it is the highway to Xinjiang and Tibet. This industrial area has one of the largest oil refineries in China and much of Asia; it also has textile mills, petro-chemical plants, rubber plants, fertilizer plants and manufactures machinery.
