Approximately 8 km east of the city center, on Mingfeng Shan (Singing Phoenix Mountain) is the beautiful Taoist Golden Temple, Taihe Palace. Built in 1604, this Ming Dynasty temple is decorated with a staggering 246 tons of bronze. The temple houses a number of interesting artifacts, including Zhen Wu's 20-kilo (44-lbs) double-edged sword. However, the temple is not easy to reach. Visitors must first scale the mountainside and pass through 3 "Heavenly Gates", which are a masterpiece on their own. Travelers are advised to visit this spot in February, when the 600-year old camellia is in full bloom.
