Description

Mount Jiuhua, about 200 km from the capital, is one of China's four sacred Buddhist mountains. The area is said to have 99 peaks, the main one being 1,342 meters (4,403 feet) high. The hillsides are dotted with 86 ancient temples and over 6,800 figures of the Buddha, set amid scenes of great natural beauty. The area is home to more than 700 monks who live a religious life among the woods and hills, making a living by farming and weaving. The temples on Mt. Jiuhua are renowned for their architectural qualities and beautiful proportions. Among the most frequently visited are the Incarnation Hall, Huacheng Temple, Zhiyuan Temple, Longevity Hall, Zhantanlin Temple, Ganlu Temple and Tiantai Zhending Temple. The area has a Historical Relics Museum, where precious sutras and cultural relics are on display, including material dating from the Tang Dynasty

There is cable car for visitors costing RMB 75-105 for a round trip.

Getting there: Buses to Mt. Jiuhua leave Anhui Provincial Tour Bus Station daily every hour from 10:00am to 3:00pm. The trip takes about three and a half hours.
